چکیده

A randomized block experiment conducted on Sultanpur silt loam evaluated the N effects on growth and nitrate accumulation of okra (Hibiscus esculents L. cv. Sabz pari) and carrot (Daucus carota L. cv. T29). Treatments consisted of a control, 100, 150 and 200 kg N ha. Significantly higher yields of carrot and okra were recorded at 150 kg N ha. Nitrate concentration in both increased (> 35 to 200%) with increasing N. An excessive nitrate accumulation in both was recorded at 200 kg N ha. Okra had 1.7 times higher nitrate accumulation than carrot. Early season okra had a significantly higher nitrate (~10%) than late season. Gross income and profitable return responded quadratically with increasing N. Results suggest that N fertilization of carrot and okra at 150 kg N ha is optimum for economical yields with less accumulation of nitrate in vegetables.

Maize response to water, salinity and nitrogen levels: soil and plant ions accumulation

In the present study, some nutritional imbalances, specific ion toxicity and yield-ion concentration relationships in maize under water, nitrogen (N) and salinity stresses were assessed. Effect of different levels of irrigation water (I1=1.0ETc+0.25ETc as leaching, I2 =0.75I1 and I3 =0.5I1) as main plot, salinity of irrigation water (S1=0.6, S2= 2.0 and S3=4.0 dS m-1) as sub-plot and N fertiliz...

Evapotranspiration and yield of okra as affected by partial root-zone furrow irrigation

Partial root-zone drying or partial root-zone irrigation is a newly proposed water saving technique which may improve water use efficiency and nutrient uptake by a crop without affecting its yield. A study was conducted to investigate the response of furrow-irrigated okra to partial root zone drying in relation to cropevapotranspiration (ETc), vegetative growth, yield, and nutrient use effi...

Nitrogen application affects yield and postharvest quality of okra (Hibiscus esculentus L. cv. ‘Boyiatiou’)

In Greece and Turkey, okra (Hibiscus esculentus L.) is cultivated for small pods (≤4-5 cm), which are highly perishable after harvest. In this experiment, okra was cultivated at 4 levels of N (30, 150, 300 and 450 mg l-1) within the irrigation water. Pod yield was highest at 300 mg l-1 N. High N increased the nitrate content and decreased dry matter without affecting pod colour (P

Nitrogen effects on yield, quality and K/Na selectivity of sugar beets grown on clays under semi-arid, irrigated conditions

In a four-year experiment, five nitrogen rates (0, 60, 120, 180 and 240 kg N ha-1) were tested over irrigated sugar beets grown on clays, underMediterranean conditions, in centralGreece. There, sugar beets are commonly grown under water shortages, high temperatures and high soil Na concentrations. Contrary to previous reports, N rates did not affect significantly population density (as asse...

Response of lateral placement depths of subsurface drip irrigation on okra (Abelmoschus esculentus)

Subsurface drip irrigation is defined as application of water below the soil surface through emitters, with discharge rates generally in the same range as surface drip irrigation. It has many advantages over surface drip. To see the response of subsurface drip irrigation on okra yield, a study was conducted at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India during 2003 and 2004. Okra (...
